Leartiker presents the CARDIOPATCH’s innovations on 3D printing technologies

  • Uzuri Urtaza, researcher from the CARDIOPATCH’s partner Leartiker, showed at the latest regional event the 3D printing products of the project for the treatment of myocardial infarction
  • The webinar, which was celebrated the 14th of December, focused on new and advanced therapies that are evolving the health industry and improving the quality of life of patients affected by cardiovascular diseases

The advanced therapy model of CARDIOPATCH Project for the myocardial infarction treatment is based in two promising fields: cellular regenerative medicine and 3D printing technologies. The second of these innovative areas was showcased at the latest regional event of CARDIOPATCH, which was organized by the initiative’s partner Leartiker on the 14th of December.

At the virtual event, Uzuri Urtaza, researcher with Leartiker, presented the project’s innovations on 3D printing technologies and the advances on the different products that are being developed during the initiative using these advanced techniques.

To be precise, the Leartiker’s expert showed all the characteristics related to the design of the 3D printing prototype of the device for culture and transport of the cellularized patch that will be key in the improvement of the quality of life of patients after a myocardial infarction. The prototype was also showcased in the first face-to-face consortium annual meeting of CARDIOPATCH

In addition, Urtaza explained how the Leartiker’s team is working on the design of a 3D device to the non-invasive implementation of the patch.

Beyond CARDIOPATCH and the project’s innovative solutions, the webinar also focused on new and advanced therapies that are evolving the health industry and the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

On the one hand, Dr. Sergio Cardoso, from BIOEF (the Basque Foundation for Healthcare Innovation and Research), showed the way personalized medicine is changing the biomedical sector and the basque health system’s challenges.

And on the other hand, Dr. Beatriz Pelacho, scientific coordinator of CARDIOPATCH, represented the project’s partner CIMA to give a deep explanation on the development of advanced therapies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

These regional events are a great opportunity to introduce CARDIOPATCH Project, an initiative co-funded by the Interreg Sudoe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that aims to create a therapeutic solution that can benefit patients with chronic myocardial infarction significantly allowing them to recover from their disease without the need of long-term pharmacological treatments or further hospitalizations.

Led by Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CUN), CARDIOPATCH includes partners from Spain, France and Portugal: CIMA Universidad de Navarra, via the Foundation for Applied Medical Research, Leartiker Technology Center, Institut de Recerca de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, communication agency GUK, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Toulouse, the University of Montpellier (UM) - Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM), GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals and the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica.
