A new perspective on the latest advances on tissue engineering through CARDIOPATCH project

  • Leartiker, one of the partners of the European initiative, organized a workshop to bring scientific research closer to society
  • During the session, conducted the 9th of March in its facilities, researchers from the member of the CARDIOPATCH’s consortium presented their work on bioprinting and microfluidics to students from the University of Basque Country

Following CARDIOPATCH’s project mission of sharing with society the scientific advances and the research work conducted within the initiative, Leartiker, one of the members of the initiative’s consortium, organized the 9th of March a workshop focused on the newest advances on tissue engineering.

The session, held at Leartiker’s  facilities, was attended by 42 students from the 4th year of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology degree of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

The workshop began with a talk about tissue engineering, focusing on projects related to bioprinting or microfluidics, and the presentation of the 3D printing products that Leartiker is developing for CARDIOPATCH as well.

All the participants discovered the project’s main goal, which is the development of an innovative therapy for myocardial infarction patients, as well as the results obtained so far by the member of the CARDIOPATCH consortium

In addition, the workshop conducted by the Leartiker researchers Ana Zubiarrain, Olatz Guaresti, Leire Etxebarria and Uzuri Urtaza was valuable to raise awareness about the work, projects and research led by the Spanish technology center. To do so, they presented different techniques used in projects focused on tissue engineering, including CARDIOPATCH.

Afterwards, the students made a tour through the company's facilities and discovered the advances of Leartiker in different innovative areas such as food technology and polymer technology.

These kinds of workshops are essential to bring the activities and the solutions of CARDIOPATCH closer to one of the target groups of the project: society.

The one organized by Leartiker has been the first of the 5 workshops that will be carried out by different partners of the initiative during the lifetime of CARDIOPATCH, which will be a great opportunity to explain their research work to a non-specialized audience.

CARDIOPATCH is an initiative co-financed by the Interreg Sudoe Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that aims to create a therapeutic solution that can significantly benefit patients with chronic myocardial infarction by allowing them to recover from their disease without the need for long-term pharmacological treatment and further hospitalization.

Led by Clínica Universidad de Navarra (CUN), CARDIOPATCH includes partners from Spain, France and Portugal: CIMA Universidad de Navarra, via the Foundation for Applied Medical Research, Leartiker Technology Center, Institut de Recerca de l’Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, communication agency GUK, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Toulouse, the University of Montpellier (UM) - Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron (IBMM), GenIbet Biopharmaceuticals and the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica
